My Mom
Happy Birthday Mom! Where have all the years gone? 34 years since we said goodbye. My mom would be 87 today. She left this world at 52, breast cancer took her way too young. In perspective, Robyn and my sister Diane both turned 52 last month, and I’m ‘speeding’ along at 55+! It’s poignant and a bit humbling to know I’ve already had more years on the planet than she did.
I’ll always remember the Halloween themed birthday cakes we used to celebrate her day. As a kid, I never knew why she seemed to not care much about celebrating her birthday. Later in life, in the manner of the late comedian Jack Benny, she used to call them anniversaries of her 39th birthday. Who knew we would have so few of those ‘anniversaries’ to celebrate with her!
I was blessed with another mom when I married Robyn. Two months ago she left us to ‘dance in the streets of gold’. I could not have asked for a better ‘other mother’ than Nancy. I was never an ‘in law’ to her nor she to me! I’d love to hear the conversation between my two moms in heaven…or maybe I wouldn’t…lol!
We are in great anticipation of a new life to join our family- Kelli and Ricky are about a week away from giving birth to our granddaughter! She will bring a lot of joy to all of us! New life has a way of helping us to be joyful through the storms of life and the void of missing those that have passed on. Baby Kaelynn is a gift from God and will remind us that ‘every good and perfect gift comes from the Father’:
Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. James 1:17 (NLT)
Kaelynn, our newest gift from heaven, will remind us of all of the other ‘lights in the heavens’ that have blessed us and now shine down on us. From her brother Alan and sister Analynn that left us before taking a breath on this Earth, to her Aunt Kimberly to great grandmothers Viola and Nancy and all the other family ‘lights’, there is indeed a ‘great cloud of witnesses’ that have run their race and wait for us at the finish line.
Happy Birthday Mom! You left a legacy!
